Re:Freshers 2020

3 FEBRUARY 2020 - SARAH - STUDENT LIFE

refresherd

Re:Freshers is coming up soon and the events start on the 17 February. There’s some new events this year and we’ll also be seeing the return of some classic Suffolk events. As well as Students' Union events, there will also be events held by different societies and sports clubs, so it’s worth keeping an eye out on social media for these. Here’s what the Students' Union has lined up so far.

Food Night

To kick off Re:Freshers, the SU are holding a Food Night, which is the perfect opportunity to meet lots of people and try some amazing different types of food. Starting at 5pm on the 17 February in the Social Space, you’ll be in the perfect place to hear what the Students' Union do and about all the societies and sports clubs you can join. If you want to cook a dish to share, you will be given £10 towards it. If you just fancy coming along, you only have to pay £2.

Freshers' Fair

Freshers' Fair is where everything happens and it’s the chance to really get to know the University and Ipswich. There will be a chance to meet and join societies and pick up plenty of freebies from all the groups there on the 18 February between 10am-2pm. The SU will be there with lots of free tote bags and lots of different charities, food groups and lots more will be there. It’s a great chance to hear about everything that will be going on in Ipswich over the year.

Comedy Night

I, for one, can’t wait for this! At 7pm on 19 February in Cult Café, there will be four comedians ready to entertain you. We have Fern Brady coming along who has toured all over the world and been at Live at the Apollo. The Early Bird tickets are £7 for students, so get in there quick! Top tip: to avoid the booking fee, buy your tickets at the Social Space Helpdesk.

Self-Care Fair

Self-care and mental health is so important, so to start the semester off right, the Students' Union is holding a self-care fair. There, you will be able to take part in some activities designed to promote better mental health. There will be some amazing mental health charities there, so make sure you come along on 20 February between 10am and 1pm in the Social Space.

Barcoda

Barcoda is the highlight of Re:Freshers Week. Starting off at 8pm on 20 February in Cult, it will be a tour of the best bars in Ipswich ending at Unit 17 to round off the night. The theme this year will be Colour Explosion, so get ready for a fun, but messy night out.

Board Games

A great way to round off the week is with the Board Games event at 1pm on 21 February in the Social Space. It’ll be a chance to have a bit of competition with people you might have met on your course or at events over the week.

Paintballing

This is the last Re:Freshers event of the week on 22 February. It’ll be an early start at 7am, but worth it for a day of paintballing out in Colchester. Keep an eye out for tickets on the Students' Union Facebook page.
