I love food, and love trying new food. However, as student I often wanted to know if the food was worth the money or was good quality despite being on a budget. Here, are some places I enjoyed during my time at Suffolk and always felt were worth the money.

Tucked away to the right of the Town Hall is Mizu. Open for dine-in and take-away Mizu is an Asian inspired restaurant that has a very wide selection of dishes to try. Sweet and sour chicken with egg fried rice, highly recommend. Relatively inexpensive but definitely value for money.

The Bushel Box

“Ice cream shop on the waterfront?!” you say. Yes! This place always surprises people and they often argue that there is nowhere to buy ice cream on the Marina. Located next to Coffee Cat, The Bushel Box looks like a quirky little shop selling miscellaneous items but in fact, at the back of the shop is an ice cream counter selling award-winning Marshfield ice cream. Excellent quality, at great price and even better location. I can’t deny I have popped in after a lecture.

Ocean Fish Platter

Ocean Fish Platter, located opposite Sainsbury’s in the centre of town is more expensive than the previous places, however, is worth every penny for this indulgent treat. Here, sea food is cooked to perfection. Lots of choice of seafood and a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy your meal. The grilled fish with two sides is superb and there are lots of dishes like this that are customisable to suit everyone’s personal taste.

Pickwicks Tea Room

This quaint vintage tearoom is not only aesthetically pleasing but certainly satisfies the taste buds. Inexpensive for the generous portions and quality of food, Pickwicks’ has a set menu of traditional sandwiches, with specials such as curry and salads, along with a soup of the day. Serves excellent cream teas and a range of cakes and sweet treats. Pickwicks; specialises in Tea and coffee with an extensive variety and blends to choose from. And… if you like what you drink you can buy your blend of choice to take home with you!

The Salt House Hotel

Now before you stop reading and say this is too expensive, hear me out. I am purely recommending this place for special events, especially graduation, where us students/graduates may not be paying the whole bill. The food is exceptional, with a varied menu and just all-round excellent quality. They do an afternoon tea experiences which comes highly recommended and are an excellent way to celebrate. They are also excellent for providing an inclusive experience, taking much care with allergies, seating arrangements for those using wheelchairs or who require more space. They also are able to purée food, sounds like an unusual recommendation but, my younger sister due to a stroke, is only able to eat food of this consistency. Finding a restaurant where she is able to choose off the menu and have the food served in a way she can eat is exceptionally rare. All round excellent experience and would highly recommend for special events.

I hope this have given you some foodie inspiration and you can find the perfect place to eat for any situation!
