Exercise is important for both mental and physical health, especially for students! It can feel overwhelming to know where to exercise so today I am sharing some of Ipswich’s best fitness facilities no matter what your exercise preference is!

  • Gyms – Pure Gym, the Gym & more!

Ipswich has lots of gyms to choose from varying in price and distance from the university. Closest and most affordable for students include the Gym at Cardinal Park and Pure Gym in the Buttermarket.

  • Parks – Christchurch, Holywells, Alexandra

If you are looking for an outside space to exercise then Ipswich has many parks to choose from and many have fitness facilities on site as well. For example, most parks have outdoor gym equipment to utilise and Christchurch Park even has tennis courts for hire.

  • Swimming Pools – Fore Street, Crown Pools

There are two main swimming pools in the town. Crown Pools is located in the town centre and Fore Street is only a two-minute walk from the Waterfront. Both pools offer student rates and the Students Union also sells swimming vouchers for an even cheaper workout!

  • Students Union Social Sports

The Students Union is the perfect place to look if you are unsure where to begin with exercising locally. They have a full and varied sports calendar with something for everyone depending on your interests and ability. If you would like to find out more about events offered by the Students Union then check out my interview with Meg, SU President of Activities and Wellbeing - coming soon.

The University of Suffolk offers numerous opportunities for students to participate in sport and physical activity at whatever level you choose. University life offers a unique opportunity to get involved in sport and physical recreation, so whether your aim is for fun, fitness or achieving your true potential, we hope you will be inspired to engage in sport and physical activity during your time here.
