Celebrating 25 years of Childhood Studies at The University of Suffolk

Early Childhood Studies at the University of Suffolk

The academic year of 2018/19 marks the 25th year of Early Childhood Studies at the University of Suffolk. To mark this momentous occasion, the staff and students are planning to organise 25 events in celebration.

The events have already included several trips to the theatre, fundraising events such as cake and book sales and active engagement with children’s activities offered by the local Spill Festival of art on the Waterfront Marina, home to the University of Suffolk.

Throughout the year we will be supporting local and international organisations, engaging in Families in Need and hosting events supporting Period Poverty.

In the Spring, students and staff will be invited to learn new skills and get involved in messy play and creative sessions, sensory awareness and signing.

Together we will be crafting squares with individual messages which we will join together to make a quilt, weaving present and past student and staff member’s stories of their time at the University together and/or depicting an important aspect of childhood. This will be displayed in July when we host the final event, the Biennial International Children and Childhood Conference.

Alumni students who studied on Early Childhood Studies, the FdA Early Years Practice, the BA Early Learning and SENDS are invited to donate a decorated 6” square to be included on the quilt by sending it to Dr Allison Boggis: Associate Professor, School of Psychology and Education, W318, Waterfront Building, Neptune Quay, Ipswich IP4 1QJ.  As part of the #25for25 event, we will also be hosting a drinks reception prior to the conference in the Foyer of the Waterfront Building at 6pm on Monday 15th July and we would love you to join us! Please pass this message on to your classmates and ask them to RSVP to a.boggis@uos.ac.uk
