Andrew Bannan

Andrew Bannan is a physiotherapist with over 20 years continuous experience as a clinician and over 15 years experience as a lecturer in physiotherapy. Andrew gained an honours degree in Sports Science before gaining his pre-registration MSc in Physiotherapy. Andrew holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education. Andrew has worked in a wide range of settings including the NHS, private practice and several individual and multi sporting environments.

Noteworthy work experiences and achievements in the Suffolk area include his role as head of medical services at Bury St Edmunds RUFC and ongoing work as senior physiotherapist for Ipswich Town's boys & women's u21 academies and women's senior squad.
Multisport roles and experience include working at the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games, Commonwealth Games in Glasgow & Birmingham, European Olympic Games & Islamic Games. Andrew has extensive experience working as a physiotherapist at domestic and international competitions in Rugby 7's for Samurai International, GB Gymnastics Championships including World Artistic, Rhythmic and Trampolining disciplines and at Davis Cup, Billie Jean King Cup & GB Pro Series Tennis Tournaments.

Andrew's previous experience in teaching & learning includes being a lecturer on a 2 year pre-registration physiotherapy MSc and both 3 year full time and historically a 4 year part time program in physiotherapy. Andrew was module lead for subject areas such as pathophysiology, anatomy, musculoskeletal & research modules.

Andrew's research interests are in the areas of musculoskeletal practice, injury surveillance and prevention / rehabilitation in sports physiotherapy, use of acupuncture / dry needling in physiotherapy practice and communication in physiotherapy practice. Andrew previously held the role of ethics officer at The University of Essex School of Sport, Rehabilitation & Exercise Sciences and was clinical editor of the Journal of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists. Andrew has a published chapter on Acupuncture in Physiotherapy in Tidy's Physiotherapy textbook and an article on Pre-patellar bursitis in the Journal of Orthopaedic Medicine.
